Husch Blackwell Strategies Federal Internship Program Unlocks Opportunities for Rohit Shajan

Rohit Shajan worked closely with HBS principals in Washington providing him with invaluable insights and exposure to a wide range of policy areas.

Eager to dive into the world of Capitol Hill and Congress, Rohit Shajan accepted a position in the HBS Federal Internship Program after graduating from the University of Houston. As a Leland Fellow at the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs, Rohit initially thought he wanted to take the conventional path of a congressional internship, but chose a different route via K Street.

Rohit worked closely with HBS principals in Washington providing him with invaluable insights and exposure to a wide range of policy areas, laying a strong foundation for a potential future in public policy and law. Leveraging his research skills and passion for policy, coupled with his previous internship experience at the Texas Senate and various local government offices, Rohit successfully enagaged with the HBS Federal team and its clients.

HBS CEO Andy Blunt said, “From the classroom to the office, embracing the real world can be challenging which is why at HBS we are dedicated to an internship program that provides a hands-on experience and direct access to learn from our top professionals across all of our offices nationwide.”

Reflecting on his internship, Rohit shared, “The most rewarding aspect of my internship was working alongside and learning from HBS team members, some with decades of experience operating in the highest levels of Congress and the federal government. There is a wealth of knowledge at HBS Washington, and the open-door policy and welcoming environment enabled fruitful conversations about policy, politics, legislation, and career options.”

For now, Rohit is set to return to Texas with plans to attend law school.
