HBS

Missouri

The HBS team’s roots run deep in Missouri. The national home office of Husch Blackwell Strategies is proudly located in Jefferson City, a decision that reinforces the firm’s commitment to providing clients practical and achievable solutions to their challenges. HBS is also led by two native sons of Missouri, Andy Blunt and Gregg Hartley.

The HBS Missouri team provides clients the valuable perspective of a former member of the Missouri House, a former legislative staff member, and the combined experiences of a long-term traditional lobbyist and a team member who has managed successful political campaigns. Our team in Jefferson City is plugged into the legislative, regulatory, and business environment in the state, serving as HBS clients’ eyes and ears. We provide clients a footprint in the statehouse that they might otherwise be without.

The HBS Missouri team has represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, public institutions, non-profits, to businesses of all sizes.

Case Studies

Client

A statewide association representing a broad statewide coalition also ran one of Missouri’s largest self-funded worker’s compensation plans for its members.

Objective

Introduce a conversation to identify “reforms” to the worker’s compensation statutes that would provide stability to rates and achieve protections from costly interpretations of existing statutes by raising the legal standard applied to worker’s compensation claims.

Strategy

The HBS team provided policymakers with real world examples of costly claims settlements and loose regulatory interpretations of existing law to educate and compel them to make the necessary and appropriate changes to Missouri worker’s compensation laws.

Result

The strategy accomplished changes to existing statutes and modified the landscape, helping stabilize rates for the statewide association in the first year of the bill’s introduction.

Client

A nationally recognized power generation company who wanted to move into the Missouri market with state-of-the-art power generation technologies faced concern from local interests.

Objective

Build local support utilizing key relationships in Jefferson City to work with local officials to understand the significant benefit new industry could provide to the community.

Strategy

By utilizing our strong relationships in Jefferson City, our team at HBS worked with elected officials to build momentum at the local level; additionally, we assisted with facilitating local events in the impacted community to understand the overall benefits associated with this new disruption in their community.

Result

HBS’s client has a secure foothold in Missouri and impressive local support at the same time that others within the same industry are facing significant challenges in the communities they are attempting to locate.
