After 45 years of devoted service in public policy and law, Husch Blackwell Strategies Maryland Principal Bill Pitcher is retiring. Bill’s knowledge of industry and government processes delivered a leading advantage to HBS Maryland clients, and it is no wonder that Bill has been recognized as one of the top business lobbyists in the state.
HBS Chairman, Andy Blunt said, “Bill proved to be exactly the right person at the right time when he joined the firm three years ago. His unparalleled expertise and track record of success has helped us stay ahead and paved the way for HBS Maryland and its reputability.”
With years spent on building a prolific network of key contacts and proven success representing clients before the Maryland General Assembly and the Executive Branch, Bill Pitcher has been regarded as one of the best-connected lobbyists in Annapolis.
“I thank Bill Pitcher for all the work he has done for Maryland and America throughout his career. I join his many friends and colleagues in congratulating him on his retirement,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer.
Long-time client Claire Bode, Legislative Committee Chair for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM) noted, “Bill has championed the legislative needs of NPAM, including taking us from the 15-page collaborative agreement to full practice authority. His time, knowledge and commitment will be missed. We wish him a long and happy retirement”.
Prior to joining HBS Maryland in 2020, Bill operated his own firm for over 30 years. Bill’s work during those years included working on a range of issues relating to Real Property law reform; healthcare; alcohol laws; medical cannabis cultivation, processing and dispensaries; and e-commerce information security, all among a range of business clients, trade associations, health care provider groups, and non-profit organizations.
HBS CEO Gregg Hartley added “Bill’s esteemed career in government relations has been remarkable. His insight and work will continue to be an asset to HBS.”
“We are fortunate to have had an industry expert amongst our team. Bill’s knowledge and commitment to his clients and the company are truly invaluable,” said Sarah Peters, HBS Maryland Managing Principal. “We wish him all the best, and he will be missed.”
Bill says he looks forward to increased world travel and spending more time with his family. He and his wife Susan recently purchased a new home, and he is looking forward to rehabbing it as well as spending more days on the golf course.
